5 In's & Out's for 2025 [Mental Health Edition]
Overconsumption, oversharing, manifesting, and 2 more popular behaviors are all OUT
1. Substitute Overconsumption for Mindful Consumption
Out: Overconsumption - Keeping up with every last trend in fashion, tech, and home decor is exhausting. Then there’s the effort to buy, assemble/install, use, make space for, or return what you’ve bought. My brain hurts just thinking about it. Toss or donate the pile of stuff collecting dust in your closet and consume mindfully in 2025.
In: Mindful consumption - This year, you’re prioritizing buying things you love. You’re going to the store and feeling the fabric on your skin, wearing your favorite sweater 1,000 times until it pills, and using your tech until it dies. This year you consume mindfully. You use what you have or serendipitously find an item you love in a store window. In 2025, you don’t need the newest, trendiest items. You just need items you like that work.
2. Delete Mindless Scrolling, Insert Real Life Connection
Out: Mindless scrolling - Brain rot is the 2024 word of the year and the average American spends 2.5 hours a day on social media (3 hours a day for teen girls). Social media and all that comes with it (like comparison, a million advertisements) has caused us wayyyy too much pain and we’re shifting the way we use our devices. 2025 is about mastering your devices, not letting your devices master you.
In: Real life connection - This year will be filled with tons of feel-good connection for you. You’re meeting up with friends for a cup of tea, enjoying spontaneous hang outs, sending “hey i’m in the neighborhood, are you around?” texts, talking to the person next to you in line at the grocery store, stopping your neighbor on the sidewalk to say “hi,” calling your friend who moved across the country to rehash your favorite show. And it feels SO good!!
3. Trade Oversharing for Privacy/Mystery
Out: We’ve all been burned by oversharing… and we’ve learned not everyone is worthy of our vulnerable stories and personal experiences. 2025 is the end of sharing too much of yourself with people you don’t know/trust, staying connected online with people you haven’t seen since 2008, and posting your daily whereabouts on instagram. Defollow, mute, disengage.
In: This year you’re limiting who has access to you. You’re doing things “just for you” without posting, curating a media diet, enjoying peaceful privacy, creating a bit of mystery, and letting people think what they want.
4. Prioritize Doing The Work Over “Manifesting”
Out: Manifesting is exhausting. You’re tired of fallacies like “I don’t chase I attract,” “It’s already mine,” “Speak it into existence” and other unhealthy terms in manifesting.
In: This year, you fully believe you can do it AND you’re showing up every day to do the work. Want to be a writer? write every day. Want to be healthy? eat healthy and work out. No excuses. In 2025, you’re all about that action.
5. Remove short-term fixes, Focus on long-term changes
Out: 2025 is the end of seasons of punishment and reward/ extreme highs and extreme lows. We’re saying no to cleanses, detoxes, protocols, health trends/fads, health experts/gurus and their quick fix ‘recommendations.’
In: 2025 is the year of slow methodical change. You’re making mindful shifts that make lasting change happen over time like: adding in one more vegetable at every meal, taking 10 minute walks if that’s all you have time for, limiting screen time, and being present in the moment. You’re not waiting for Monday, you’re starting today.
Wishing you a beautiful 2025.
Love always,
Jessie
